Psalm 19:9-11 …the rules of
the Lord are true, and righteous
altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine
gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb. Moreover, by them
is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.
What a great promise and encouragement! Following Scripture, the rules of the LORD,
is the great reward! This promise of
great reward does not come after we follow the rules of the LORD. The reward comes in keeping the commandments
of our LORD. The reward is not payment
that God gives us after obeying Him much like I reward my dog, Salty, for
obeying my commands. The reward that we
absolutely receive is the pleasure that comes while we are living in obedience
to God’s commands now. There is the happiness that flows directly from the
sense of doing or having done what is right. We get the reward of a happy conscience, a
real comfort, instantaneous joy, true delight, love and happiness of the heart
and soul. Jesus has released us from
working for eternal life that God has given us through the Life, death and
resurrection of Jesus Christ. That is
accomplished through the free gift of faith that God gives us in Christ. What a great reward! Jesus is our great reward as He is the fulfillment of God's Commands.
Father, thank You for giving us Your precious
and life giving commands through Your Word.
LORD, please give us the urgings of Your Holy Spirit moment by moment to
know and obey Your rules, commands, testimonies, precepts, laws, out of
delightful fear that brings us the great reward of a happy heart that knows You
more intimately. LORD, knowing You and
Your Son Jesus Christ is the Great Reward.
We love You and knowing You.
